Character and Indulgence

Character and Indulgence

“Personality can open doors but only character can keep them open” – Elmer G. Letterman.

“Our character…is an omen of our destiny, and the more integrity we have and keep, the simpler and nobler that destiny is likely to be.” –George Santayana

Character is who we are. It is the sum total of all that distinguishes us from everyone else. It is the mark we bear in the society. Our character in every situation goes a long way in what others define us to be and also on the quality of our lives. Thus it is necessary for us to imbibe a good character – that which will be to the glory of God. We must have essential characters such as justice, fairness, righteousness, honesty, mercy and faithfulness.
How to Develop Good Character:
1. We are not born with godly character. It is developed. Through experience and testing, it is proved. The formation of character is in the strength of things we exhibit. Deut. 8:2.
2. Endurance is one of the important building blocks of character. James 1:4.
3. Being God’s people should significantly affect our character and conduct. God has separated us unto Himself. Thus we are special and holy unto Him. Deut. 7:6. Our lives should exist as a sacrifice unto Him in character and conduct. And God is pleased when we offer ourselves unto im in full obedience. Obedience to God is a clear indication that we are committed to a godly character. 1 Sam. 15;22.
