Relationship: Not Time For Pleasure

God has blessed us so that we can be a blessing to others. The grace He has given to us is to serve others. Thus, our relationships with others should be on the platform of love – to be willing to give without thinking of being paid back. Serving others for recognition or to take advantage of them displeases God and shuts the door of His blessings. Jesus said, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven” Matt. 6:1.

Covetousness blinds the eye of love in serving others. Gehazi was greedy for gain and refused to receive what God had ordained Elisha to pass onto him. Lot walked out of the plans of God into the city of destruction because ‘he saw that the whole plain was well watered’ Gen. 13:10. Samson, as anointed as he was, became the sport of God’s enemies because he wanted to use God’s grace upon him for his own pleasure. Our opportunities and privileges are to be used in the service of others to bring glory to God (Matt. 5:16).

When we have opportunity to do anything for others, let us do it cautiously, knowing that it is God we are relating with (Matt. 25:31-46) and He will call us to account. Let’s not use our position to take advantage of others to bring pleasure unto ourselves. Relationships are not for pleasure. They are to bring meaningful impacts unto others.
